Man fined for wasting police time

A 21-year-old Princes Town man charged with wasteful employment of the police, pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $1,000 or in default, three months’ hard labour. Junior Ali appeared virtually before Magistrate Indira Misir Gosine in the Princes Town Magistrates’ Court.

Ali claimed that on March 29, 2021, he was kidnapped while walking along Begonia Avenue, Princes Town, by two men in a black Nissan Tiida vehicle, beaten and robbed. The men allegedly tied Ali to a tree and relieved him of $3,700 before they escaped. Ali reported that he later managed to free himself and ran to safety. Officers of the Princes Town CID conducted further enquiries and charged Ali.
