With a serious crime problem and a legal system that has proven to be deficient in the administration of criminal justice, there is a public cry to reduce the criminal matters which are bailable.
Bail is not a privilege but rather a right and its primary function is to ensure the attendance of court for accused persons. With the trials of criminal matters taking years to be completed in most cases it is unjust to deprive persons from the right to bail as it seeks to pre judge persons where the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty is a fundamental part of the criminal justice system.
Make the system more efficient and ensure the swift determination of matters. Only a holistic approach to criminal justice reform will deal with the problem.
